The 90/10 principle

This is such a cute picture :)

90/10 Principle
-Stephen Covey

What's that?

Yes, this is another thing that I've learn from English Class!

90/10 principle

10% of life is made up of what happens to you.
(Something that is beyond our control)
Example:
We can't prevent traffic jam from happening.
We can't stop the car from breaking down.

We can determine the other 90%
The other 90% is our reaction towards all the different kind of situations we face.
Example:
If someone accidentally steps on your toe,
Do you start scolding him?
or
Say 'it's okay, I'm fine'?

One fine day, your mom arrived late to fetch you to school.
What can you do?
You're already late.
Do you get angry and blame your mom?
or
Just stay calm and go to school?
Think about it.

If it's still not helping, maybe this could help.
(Everything belongs to STEPHEN COVEY)

Senario 1
One beautiful morning, a family was in the kitchen enjoying their breakfast as usual. The daughter of the family accidentally spilled some coffee and stained the father's clothing. The father got really angry and scolded the daughter. The daughter broke into tears.

Not only he has scolded his daughter, he blamed his wife for placing the coffee cup on the edge of the table. Then, he stomped upstairs and changed into a clean shirt and ran downstairs. He was already late for work. But, his daughter was busy crying instead of finishing her breakfast and get going to school. She missed the bus. So the father had to send her daughter to school.

The father speed on the highway on the way to school. He was stopped by policeman and had to pay a 60$ fine. That took 15 minutes of his time. Few minutes later, they reached school and his daughter had to run into the classroom.

The father continued his journey to work. Once he entered the office, he found out that he left his briefcase at home. He had to go all the way back home and take his briefcase and go all the way back to the office. Bad things just kept on happening to him and all he wanted to do was go home.

At home, his wife was still pissed about what happened in the morning, so it wasn't his day.

Senario 2
One beautiful morning, a family was in the kitchen enjoying their breakfast as usual. The daughter of the family accidentally spilled some coffee and stained the father's clothing.

The father kept his cool and said :'' It's okay, honey, be more careful next time.' And everything was cool. The father went upstairs, changed and grabbed his briefcase. When he came down, he was just in time to see his daughter got on the bus. The daughter looked back and waved at the father.

The father took his time and went to office for he had time. Once he entered the office, everything was right. He greeted his colleges cheerfully and started his day.

Both senarioes started of the same,
but ended differently.

In senario 1, all it took was just 5 seconds to ruin the entire day for the father. Is it worth it?
FIVE SECONDS. FIVE.

I know saying it is much easier than actually doing it. Well, we have to try. It's for the sake of everyone. :)

God bless! :)
'I am a friend of God!'
Whoo!
